Like any other game in casino, the house always holds an advantage over the player when it comes to Blackjack. To put it in simple words, the more a player participates in blackjack, the more money the casino makes off him/her. But unlike a myriad of other casino games, Blackjack is the one that stands out the most because it is the only game where a player can, at certain times, also hold an advantage over the house. There are various techniques that have been studied and advanced by seasoned blackjack players that have been successfully used to win at blackjack.

The one technique of winning consistently at blackjack is using the card counting system. This is basically a system where the player counts cards and it allows the player to know their odds, so they can decide on the amount of bet to place. So how can a player use this to gain an advantage over the house? As the dealer dishes out the cards, a player studies them and counts the pattern to determine the next most likely card what will be dealt next. Once the player knows this, he can decide on the best way to play the upcoming hand. This way, a player is able to tell whether the odds are in their favour or not.

There are 4 systems of counting cards in Blackjack, they include:

Level

This is where each card is assigned a value of +1 or -1. These values may increase and as they do, it becomes more accurate but much harder to use.

Side count

In this, an additional count is kept on top of the total points counted, for example, a player keeping track of the number of aces dealt.

Running count

This is the total amount of points that a given card has been assigned to a deck before it is dealt on the table.

True count

This is arrived at by dividing the running count by the total number of decks remaining. This system usually comes in very handy in games that involve multiple decks.
